How to convert video to GIF
Upload your video, set the time range (start/end in seconds), FPS, and output width, then click Create GIF. The tool generates a palette from your video frames for optimal color representation, then applies dithering to produce a high-quality GIF.
GIF quality tips
- Keep it short: GIFs above 5 seconds become very large. 2–4 seconds is ideal for sharing.
- Lower FPS: 10fps is usually fine; 6fps for very small files.
- Smaller width: 320–480px looks great for most sharing contexts.
- Trim first: Use the trim tool to isolate the best moment before converting.
GIF vs MP4 for sharing
GIF files are larger than MP4 for equivalent visual content, but GIFs are universally supported in emails, chat apps, and social media without requiring a video player. For Discord, Slack, and email inline previews, GIF is often preferred. For platforms that support MP4 (Twitter, Reddit), MP4 is smaller with better quality.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my GIF so large?
GIF is an inefficient format compared to MP4. Keep clips short (under 5 seconds), use 10fps or less, and reduce width to 480px or smaller. A 3-second 480px 10fps GIF is typically 1–3MB.
Can I make a GIF loop?
Yes — all GIFs generated by this tool loop infinitely by default.
What's the best alternative if the GIF is too large?
Use the Compress Video tool to create a small MP4 instead. MP4 is 5–10x more efficient than GIF for the same visual quality.
